If your relationship is new the odds of you meeting your valentine, online is very high. Online doesn’t necessarily means online dating site but it can be social networks, chat rooms etc. Research says that people who are together for decades, most likely met their valentine through family, work or any other traditional means.
The Internet is the one social arena that is unambiguously gaining in importance over time. Online dating sites have reported a 15% growth in audience from December 2005 to December 2009. In a recent poll conducted by USA Today where they asked readers for their own – “How they have met” stories, more than 300 people participated. In the results the Internet is more often cited than meeting partners through family, workplace or in their neighborhood. Family connections were mentioned by one-quarter of respondents who met their partners 16 to 20 years before the survey and by 13% of those who met two years before the survey.
What was surprising that people over 30 were the ones who met partners online — rather than the twenty somethings that we expected.
A new analysis about Internet dating, suggests the influence of social networks may well bring more online pairings as Internet daters tell friends and family about their experiences, thus encouraging other singles to use Internet dating. People who have friends and family who have used internet or social media’s to find their dates are more likely to use it.
How did you met your valentine? What’s your opinion on using online services to find the love of your life? Share your views and opinions and your dating stories – Happy Valentines Day !!!

In a recent study of 175 newlywed couples scientists at Iowa State University said those who met through online dating agencies, or social networking sites, tended to be older than other couples who met through traditional ways offline. There are many factors that encourage the support and use of these technologies and one of them is the constraint on people’s time – such as people with kids, full time jobs or long work hours. But the study didn’t mention anything on the outcome of those marriages.
As we are getting busier with our life our dependency on technology is increasing by leaps and bounds and dating is no exception. The dating and match-making companies are trying to grab a lion’s share of the online dating market and social networking sites becoming like a country by themselves in terms of subscribers.
Its the very software that’s solving many different problems in everyday life is also determining if two people are compatible or not. Its not that every match is resulting in a marriage but when we are bombarded with commercials showing matches ending in happy marriages, we are programming ourselves to think, that the match is based on 1001 dimension of compatibility, has to be true.
Dating industry is considered as recession-proof as was proven during the recent economic downturn and dating companies are cashing on the fact that during distress we human hunt for companionship. What’s wrong walking up to a lady and striking a conversation? Nothing but then if there everyone find a date by themselves who is going to pay the $60.00 monthly subscription to the dating companies.

We added a new feature that will let users who are not registered get notified when someone add them in their dating tree. Why? We wanted to give users flexibility to see if they would like to use the service. So with this they don’t have to register till they find something interesting.
Well the same feature can also be used to see if someone has added your ex-girlfriend or boyfriend. The only limitation un-registered users have is they can add a maximum of 5 names.

MyDatingTree is about people you are dating and have dated. I came across this forum where someone asked the question is it OK to date more than one person at the same time? Well there is no definite answer to this question. It all boils down to whether you are in exploration mode or settling mode. Before you raise your eyebrows let me clarify dating doesn’t essentially mean you will have to be intimate with the person – we are talking about dating in true sense.
There are people who think its unethical to date multiple people at the same time. Sometimes we don’t like date more than one people because people assume you are having sex. Men probably would love to brag dating multiple women however the opposite may not be true.
“Women have an inherent natural instinct to nest. We want to nest and produce. We’re looking for someone who is stable and consistent. As a result, sometimes we jump into things too fast. We become clingy and want a commitment too fast because we rush the situation. When you date more than one person, you slow down and weigh your options because you’re not zeroing in on one person.”
Dating more than one person at a time could definitely be fun and adventurous but, as with everything in life, the experts note there are pros and cons to doing this.
Pros
1. Improve your confidence
2. No commitment of rushing into romance
Cons
1. Running away from commitment
2. Risk of dealing with dishonest people

The key to successful dating online is a well-written user profile. It is that area that contains photos, biographical information about yourself, as well as details about what you’re looking for in a potential mate.
Now going by the standards of eHarmony or Match.com the process can be intimidating but then how many chances you think you are going to get to make a great first impression. A god profile is master key to a great first impression.
The profile can be typically divided into few parts –
Photo
Please don’t post that picture of yours in your passing out ceremony from college unless you just passed out. Keep the photos recent and real. You don’t have to pose like Marylyn Monroe or try to impersonate Jonny Depp. Post a picture where you look honest.
Don’t include too many pictures with your friends as too you might run into a risk of the girl digging for your friend you looks cooler than you.
Username
Tell me your user name doesn’t have – stud/sexy/vampire/slutty. If you do have please make sincere efforts to change them. Also don’t put cryptographic codes – x&*&12Ninja32. Stay clear of anything too provocative.
The description
People how you are looking for a great date when have to look to the sky to define – who you are and what you like to do? Put a short description on who you are, how you stand out from the crowd. It’s OK to include the latest movies you have seen or the places you have visited. Now please don’t try to impress by writing a book which is scheduled to be released next Christmas. Its OK to exaggerate little bit but do your own research.
Patience
This is the mantra to find that hidden treasure. Relax if your date’s don’t work out remember we are talking about human compatibility and not Gin Cocktail.
Just a small inspirational event for you – Gina spent years surfing all possible dating sites, paying hundred of dollars in membership. Tired of shelling out her hard earned money for some short and brief intimate moments she cancelled her membership. Few days after cancelling her membership as she was going through her mail she saw the last match notification sent by the service provider – thinking what else can go wrong she went out for a date. That was 2006, today she has a seven year old with Jeff, who supposedly was the last match notification.

Two years back when I came up with this idea nearly every soul known to me said – the idea stinks. Why I pursued this, I have no idea. Probably one main reason I wanted to pursue and finish the project was that this is my third attempt to launch something – the first two never saw the daylight.
In the world of start-ups a stinking idea is nothing new. But then after the Eureka moment most ideas stink. What is important is how they face the challenges, adapt, learn and continue.
Is there any need for MyDatingTree? I don’t know. Did we need Twitter 4 years back, the answer is no. Just the way Twitter doesn’t fall in the list of services I use I fully understand may be 8 out of 10 people who will visit may not use MyDatingTree. This service is not only for the people who are Guru’s of the dating world but average Joe like you and me can also use the service by only adding the people we are currently with (wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend). For every member you have a dating diary where you can collectively combine the photos, videos, dating stories related to that datee.
You can share the dating stories in the public forum and the best stories get published in the top section of the forum. To eliminate spam and junk users we will use a profiling system that will allow a user to create profile of others. Unlike other social networking sites where you create your profile, in MyDatingTree you create the profile of others and rate how accurate you find their dating tree.
Like any other service there will be misuse, we are doing our best to define policies that will prevent misuse. We will keep on adding functionality and you have our ears for anything you want to say/write about the service. And don’t hesitate to write it sucks (if you sincerely feel so).
