It all started with the idea that it would be fun to see the dating history of Celebrities and see who they have dated when they were not that popular. It might be that my ex-girlfriend dated this guy named Joe, who dated this girl named Holly, who dated this guy named Tom actually turned out to be Tom Cruise. Well its not true but you got the idea.

We took this idea and thought why not flip it upside down and let you and me add people we are currently with and see if we can create a network and find popular figures (we see everyday in tabloids and newspapers) in our network. But we realized it would be more fun if we can invite our friends and see who's there in their dating tree too. The more people we have in our network the bigger the dating tree gets.

Considering the kind of information we are dealing with we wanted to make sure that our members feel secure and comfortable using the service. Different privacy options are available to registered members that let them define how they want others to see their dating tree.

We can show plenty of reasons why you should register but you might just have one reason for not to and we understand that. But then without registering you still can briefly see if someone has added you in their dating tree or who this guy you went out for prom is current dating.

We can even notify you when someone add you in their dating tree so as you can see we don't want to rush you to register.

Its very simple, just register with MyDatingTree. Once you are registered the system will display all the possible dating tree's where your name appears. Its very unlikely all of them are the same person (i.e. you) as we assume there are other people who share the same name. If you recongnize someone who you have dated or are currently dating you select how the person is related to you and thats it. You got your dating tree built.

Yes but lets give you a small overview on how it works. When you search for someone to add in your dating tree, you will notice some members show up as "Unregistered" in the search result. These members are not registered and anyone can add them in their dating tree. So coming back to your question, it might happen that one of your ex-boyfriend decided to add you in his dating tree. Since you are not registered your dating tree is public.

If you are a registered member you will receive a notification whenever someone add you in their dating tree. In this case you have the option to choose if you want to add him in your tree or not.

No. However if you are a member you will receive a notification. But even when you reject a request you might be there in someone's dating tree as "Unregistered".

Please note that many people share the same name as yours so don't get alarmed when you see your name in someone's dating tree.

We strongly recommend not doing that. We don't want to spoil the fun here by posting fasified information. Just the way we do our best to protect the privacy of our members we expect you to show the same gesture and refrain yourself from posting false or offensive contents.

If you are not a registered member then anyone can add you in their tree and view who else have added you in their respective trees. However if you are registered then the following people can view your tree -

The fun part of MyDatingTree is every member has their tree which they own and when they link with others they extend their network. You cannot remove yourself from someone's tree however you can remove a member from your tree. If that member was a confirmed member i.e. someone you were linked to then you appear as "Unconfirmed" in his/her tree.

Whenever you see the tag "Unconfirmed" it indicates either the user hasn't confirmed to the request to add or has recently removed the link.

Good question lets see. Do you know once you are a member you can rate the profile of your friends and people you dated. What does it mean? Well to bring some accountability to the information people post we let people define how accurate they find the information posted by their friends and dating tree members.

You can create rumors and people can vote if it is true or false. The dating feed keep you updated with whats happening in your circle - who is dating who, who broke up, who has posted stories and pictures etc.

In the coming months we will be adding more features and will keep you involved and posted as part of the community.

MyDatingTree is not a dating site however we have plans to get into partnership with dating services to either find possible matches for people who are singles or to allow people to do match making for their friends.

Yes the way we have designed the system it allows you to add a person even when he/she is not registered. They will appear in your tree as "Unregistered".

We will make the period optional very soon but the reason we asked for this information so that we can show the people in your tree in correct order. The place is used to show the member on a google map thats also a fun way of seeing who has the most geographically diverse tree.

The picture is optional however if you upload we recommend choosing one where you are with the person you are adding in your tree. This is one way to also show you have been with the person. We request you to respect the privacy of the people and please don't post pictures that are offensive or contains nudity.

We decided to display people in different colors to quickly identiy if that person is an Ex or is currently with the person whose dating tree we are viewing. So when its -

You can add two type of people in your dating tree. One who are already member of MyDatingTree and one who are not. When the member you are adding is registered with us the system send a request and till the request is accepted it displays - "Unconfirmed" which also means you are not yet linked to the member.

When the member you are adding is not registered with us the system displays - "Unregistered".

If someone add you in their dating tree the system send you a confirmation and gives you the option if you want to accept or reject the request. Click accept if you have dated the person and want to add in your tree and click reject if you don't want the person to be displayed.

One of the Unregistered member in my tree is now showing a different image with Yes No button ?

When you have "Unregistered" member in your tree the system performs a search to see if there is any match with a registered member, if a match is found the system will show you the member. To help you decide if this is the right person we display the profile image of the member. This is the reason why you see a different image in this case.

Click on the icon (arrow) on the top right corner and click on Edit. Make the changes and click on Save to apply your changes..

If you no longer dating this person click on the icon (arrow) on the top right corner and click on Break-Up. The system will display the person as your Ex.

Who can see my dating tree ?

We would like to explain this one more time with an example so that you have a clear understanding of who can view your dating tree. John registers and add the following people in his dating tree -

Sally - Is not yet registered with MyDatingTree so she is added as an unregistered member

Cathy - Is registered and has Robert as her Ex-Husband, and Robert has Tina as his Ex-girlfriend in their respective dating tree's.

John also added Mike as his friend and Mike has Tom and Randy in his friend list.

In this example the people who will be able to view John's tree are - Cathy, Robert, Tina & Mike.

Can I prevent someone from adding me in their dating tree ?

You can do this is different ways. When someone add you in their dating tree, you will receive a request. You can reject the request to prevent the user from adding and linking with your account or from the setup > Privacy you can uncheck - Allow people to see me in search results. This will prevent people from seeing your account in search results.
